Drive folders open in search mode

I can double click on regular folders and they open just fine, but whenever I
open a drive folder such as the C drive, G drive (external hard drive) or
something that is pluged into my USB, it opens in search mode instead of
actually opening the file to view it's contents. Also, whenever you plug
something into the USB drive, it opens itself in search as well. It's
annoying. One last thing, since I've been "enjoying" the use of my new
iPod, everytime I try to turn off the computer i get a end program box for
some kind of card reader program that does not respond. This is obvioulsy
related to either the iPod itself or the miserable iTunes program I had to
install to use it. Any thoughts?

Search opens after editing Drives or Directories

Type in Start Run

regsvr32 /i shell32

This occurs when you use the File Types dialog to edit Drives or
Directories. You need to type the above each time you use that dialog to
edit those two types.

I didn't mess with that until after it began opening in search. However, I
am not sure if I am doing this right. Nothing has changed. Could you please
explain this better for me?

John,

You may not have messed with it, but some program could have.

Click Start | Click Run | Paste this in the Open box:

regsvr32 /i shell32

Then click OK.

Or, hit your Windows key and hold it down and hit the R key.
The Run command will open.
Paste this in the Open box:

regsvr32 /i shell32

Then click OK.

If that doesn't fix it, see these...

Thank you very much. I actually had to go into the registry editor and make
the changes to finally get it to work properly. I appreciate the help very
much.

regsvr32 /i shell32 fixes the problem sometimes and is easier than editing
the registry.

Glad you got it fixed.
