Dragging Pictures

D

Doug Mc

I'm trying to insert some pictures onto a page and then arrange them in the
order/position that I want.
I do an Insert Picture from File OK and the pictures will go on the page OK;
however I can't seem to drag them around and position them where I want
them.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm using MSWord 97 SR1.
Thanks for your help.

Hi, Doug,

It sounds like the pictures are being inserted in-line (Word treats them
like a big character) instead of floating. Select one, then click the Text
Wrapping button on the Picture toolbar -- it looks like a dog on a shaded
square -- and select either Square or Tight. Then you should be able to drag
the picture.

Thanks Jay,
I couldn't find "a dog on a shaded square" but I DID find the text -wrapping
button.
It worked.
Maybe W97 lost the dog!

I don't think Word 97 had the Picture toolbar Jay was referring to, just the
Format Picture dialog, in which you have to check the box for "Float over
text" on the Position tab before you can choose any wrapping other than
inline. If you found a Picture toolbar or a Text Wrapping button, I think
you may not have Word 97 (but perhaps the toolbar was just not displayed
automatically when you click on a picture?).

Yep, it was there. Looks like a square box with a yellow background and
horizontal lines with a diamond super-imposed on it.
I also saw the picture toolbar but it is not automatically displayed when
clicking on a picture. You have to set it up.
