downloads won't open

O

I recently have a problem when I download a file and completes if I try to
execute it I get a quick dos window popup and then nothing happens. The
files appear to complete as normal. If I download a zip file I have no
problems just exe files.

Thanks

Hi :)

You don't mention which version of Windows you have, and that can often make
a big difference in what works or not, as there are differences in Operating
Systems. I will take a guess that you have XP, and if so, it can be a
firewall or security issue. Try the following .exe fix from Kelly Theriot,
MS-MVP.

Also...

Internet Explorer cannot download FILE.exe from
www.ChampionRealtyINFO.com.

Hope this helps.

Thanks IE6 with XPpro sp 2. It is almost seems to be a combination of
incorrect file extension and not working. The file size is correct as
expected for the download.

Thank you for the OS details. Have you tired to associate the correct
file/program association to the files you are trying to download? Also,
from where are you trying to download these files? What is the type of
document you are trying to download? i.e., an add-in, update, program, etc?

With XP2, there were many new security features implemented that can cause
this kind of problem in the Security settings. If what you are trying to
download has some form of ActiveX involved or required, then that might
create such a problem.

Could you please post a link to one of the sites you are having a problem
downloading from so that we can see if there is a component that may be
causing the download to fail.

Are you getting any error messages? If so, what is the exact wording of the
messages?

The 'quick dos window popup' suggests that this program should
be run in a command window, so run 'cmd' to open a command
window and run the file from there, so long as you know what
the program is, and are satisfied that the program is not going
to damage your system.
