Downloading a file closes Internet Explorer Window

Dear World,

When I download a file and click 'Open', the browser window is closed as
soon as the file opens. This happens on 2003 Server with SP1, using Internet
Explorer 6.0.3790.1830 SP1. It happens for all types of files, for all types
of logins, but not for all sites (eg, hotmail attachments opening do not
cause this)

There is a Knowledge Base article that sounds pretty much exactly like the
problem I have except that bug was apparently resolved a long time ago in IE
5.5 !

Ever since I upgraded from 2000 server to 2003 server this problem started
happening

Hi Yogi :)

I am not familiar with 2003 Server, but, you might try the following and see
if it helps:

First of all make sure you are in Administartor of the computer so your
account is not locked down.
Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>scroll down to Download
section and check the File Download box.
Then go to the Advanced tab>press the "Restore Default" button.

Hi Jan !

Thanks for the tips. I did double check logging on as an admin, and looking
at the IE settings and they were OK. That knowledge base article 275290
sounds very much like my problem.

If I can't resolve the issue soon i am seriously considering becoming an emu
farmer.

i forgot to mention, that there are no toolbars or popup blockers on the
machine
