KB886903 continually attempts to install without success.
Error: Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
process id=0xbdc (3036), Thread id=0xbe0 (3040)
Click OK to terminate
Click CANCEL to debug
If I terminate it still shows the update needs to be installed.
If I CANCEL then another error message:
SL34.tmp Common Languagfe Runtime Debugging Services exception cannot handle
process id=0x23c (572, thread id=0x244 (580)
If I Cancel another error message:
Reg JIT Debugger not avail error code 0x2(2)
Anybody know what's going on?
Also, my System Restore, upon activation attempt
gives following error message - (could all this be connected?):
AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: srrstr.dll
Modver: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00009826
System Restore has worked in the past - several times.

The .NET framework needs to be installed before this patch will install. If
you do not use .NET, you do not need to install it.

Thanks DJ!
How do I install .NET framework? Is it on my Windows CD
or must (or can) I get it off the Internet?
Thanks. This has been a real headache for past two/three
weeks. My system keeps downloading this update and then
will not install it.
Apreciate anything else you can do to direct me to the right place.

..NET framework is avaliable in the Windows Update web site. You may be able
to locate it on Microsoft's download web site.

As Yves pointed out, the .NET framework is available on the Windows Update
site (under Recommended Updates, as I recall). However, I will reiterate
that unless you have some reason for installing it, you may not want to. I
require it for programming and have never experienced an issue with it, but
I have heard (and read about in these NG's) others that have experienced
slowdowns after install. That may be completely unrelated, though, I don't
know. As I said, I've not had any problems.

Thanks Guys!
I looked and I do have .NET Framework 1.1 installed. Decided that it may be
causing problems else where I attempted to remove it from my system and
even that would not work. Didn't write down the error message. What a mess.
Can either of you tell me how to talk to someone on the phone or get them
to connect to my computer and review this problem. I have an SRX ID # I
got on the phone but can't now seem to get back in touch with the department
that issued it - SRX 0500202602849. Thanks for response if you can help - No
Response is required or expected if you are out of ideas and suggestions.
Thanks a million for all you've done and tried to do.

Not sure about your SRX ID...

If you know someone knowledgeable, you can try using a Remote Assistance
Invitation to get someone to help you. Open up help and do a search for
Remote Assistance for more info.

If you've already got the .NET framework installed and it's giving you
issues, I would suggest attempting to reinstall it. You can get the
redistributable package here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en

After installation, attempt to reinstall the update patch as it is necessary
to protect several vulnerabilities. Once it's up and running without
errors, you can pretty much forget about it.

Downloaded per your link and it would not install. says something about
needing netfx.msi which I can not find on my computer. Got any other ideas?
Thanks

I think everybody should install it. Since a lot of programs are now written
in the .Net languages, then the computer has to have the Framework to run the
programs.
