download nature songs to desktop

J

Jay

Hello,

I'm getting into nature songs. However, when I click a link to one, they are
automatically downloaded to my temporary internet files folder. Once in
there, they are difficult to find as I have thousands of files stored there.
My goal is to be able to download these files (mp3, wave, au, etc.) and same
them in my My Music folder, with an eye to send them to my library in Real.
If you have followed me this far, I would like to know if there's any way to
change IE 6's settings so that some files are not downloaded to the
temporary internet files folder.

I would also like if, once I download these files, will I be able to listen
to them if I delete them from the temporary internet files folder. it is
really confusing in that some of these files, when you check their
properties, are shown as being saved in either a URL (that is, a remote
computer) or a media program like Musicmatch or Real. All I want is to get
these files stored in my My Music folder so I can have both quick and
permanent access to them. I would really appreciate any information you
could give me towards this end.

Hi Jay,

There are 2 ways to do this

1. Right click on the link to the nature song, you will see a menu option to
'Save link as'. Save the file as prompted to your Desktop.

(Some web sites disable right-click menus on web pages so you may not be
able to use this method)

2. On the Internet Options control panel (Tools>Internet Options), on the
General tab there is a Settings button for the Tempory Internet Files (TIF)
folder. When you click it you will see an option to move the TIF folder. You
could also choose to empty your TIF folder before navigating to the site
where your songs are, making it easier to find them in the TIF folder.

Regards.

You can right click on the file you want to save and choose "save as" and
browse to the folder you want to save it in.
If it is a link to a file you right click on the link and select "save
target as" and browse to the folder you want to save it in.
Hope this helps. Let us know please.

If you don't get the prompt to save them wherever you want then....

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

This message is for Alan Edwards. I'm replying to the whole group as opposed
to Alan Edwards himself because I don't know if when you reply to an
individual you are sending him an email at the email address he has listed
for this newsgroup or you are somehow replying to him and only him in this
group context (feel free to clarify me on this confusion).

Alan, I opened an Explorer Window (though I didn't understand your
instructions on how to do it--I went Start>>My Computer>>Local Disk>>etc.)
and went Tools>>Folder Options >> File Types. However, when I highlight the
extension line for MP3 and WAV files, I get the message that I have
customized them to open with a non-default program, along with a Restore
button, as opposed to the Advanced button I bet with the other
extension/file type items. I did do this--I want MP3 and WAV to open with
Real. However, I want to be prompted first as though I were downloading a
text document from the Web. You know, I should be able to go into Real and
change this but I don't seem to be able to. Thanks a million. I was thinking
about restoring defaults and then trying to do what you told me but I think
I'll wait for your response.

Right-click the link and select "Save Target As," then save them to your My
Music folder.

Reply Group is probably OK but I don't use the same newsreader as you
are using. You seem to have done the right thing.

You don't say what operating system and I don't use Real.
I am unfamiliar with your Restore button as I don't see that in any
operating system I use.

Hi. This message is for M. Doucet and Alan Edwards.

Yes, I will keep in mind right-clicking the link. But I also want to say
that that I figured out how to do it using Alan's way. I restored MP3 and
WAV files to their default settings. Then I checked in the boxes Alan told
me to. Then I went back and changed the default media player for those file
extensions to Real. Now when I click the link I get the prompt. furthermore,
if I choose to listen to the link instead of saving it, it opens with Real
and not Musicmatch. Thanks a lot guys. Now I can finally get to the real
work!
