I purchased a refurbishes dell laptop and a tech. put
windows 2000 on it for me. The problem is...all I am
trying to do is pay for something online (which I did all
the time on my other computer) but I get the message "open
with" and I dont know which to choose. I dont have much to
choose from. So, do I need to download something to "open
with"? This happens alot when I get email with an
attachment that needs to be opened. but, I cant open it
because I dont think I have the program on here to open
with. Very easy problem.......but driving me nuts!!! help

What kind of files? for example, if someane sent you an mp3, you'd need an
mp3 player. If you have the correct software installed, it may be
configured improperly. If you don't, you can likely find a free or
shareware browser at www.download.com, www.tucows.com or other site.

now, if someone sends you a file that is a .pif, .pi or .zi it's almost
certiuanly a trojan and should be deleted. .scr, .exe, .zip are a grey
area.

It is only a LST file. I think..but, all it is.....is a thing I used pay
pal to pay for which I can change my drivers licence online. Just a
document I need to open. It isnt anything harmfull. Help.....and thanks

Not familar with paypal, did they send you or make you download any
software? If so, it's a decent bet.
It may also just be a text file with a funny extention -- there's a whole
array of these formats. TRy opening with notepad.
Anyone know for sure w/ these?

..LST is usually an alternate extension for text files. They should be
viewable with Notepad unless you have something else you prefer to use. I
would be very careful about anything that purports to be from PayPal
unless you downloaded it yourself. There have been a number of email
messages sent out recently that appeared to come from PayPal but were
actually from scammers attmepting to get you to reveal your account
information.
