Download csv file from Yahoo Finance

Brenda

I am running XP and IE 6.0.2800 and recently installed the
latest patch (Q832894) from windows update. Before the
patch I was able to right click on the download
spreadsheet link and use 'save target as' to save in a csv
file. When I try it now I get the following error:

IE can't download filename.csv from finance.yahoo.com.
IE was not able to open this Internet site. The requested
site is either unavailable or cannot be found.

When I click on the link it just opens the data in the
browser window, which takes several steps to get the data
into a csv file.

Where exactly are you in Yahoo finance? When I enter a
quote there is a "Download Data link at the bottom of the
page. Are you trying to click on such a link? Have you
tried right clicking the link and selecting "save target
as..."

Several posters here have been having the same problem, Brenda. It appears
that Yahoo Finance and even MS Money downloads can't accommodate last week's
Cumulative Security Patch for IE (MS04-004).

There is the possibility however that the interim patch released late today
may help:

Wininet retries POST requests with a blank header

To assure a clean install, your anti-virus application should be disabled
and all other running processes closed before going to Windows Update and
when downloading/installing from any MS page. This patch requires a reboot
and will be included in the next Cumulative Patch for IE.
