I have a hard drive that had Windows XP PRO installed on it. My original hard
drive got damaged and I want to use the drive that has the pro installed. I
do not have the Product Key for the XP Pro but I do have it for XP Home
edition. When I try to do a clean install with the windows Home on the drive
that has the XP Pro installed I get the a **** the computer will shut down to
stop damage to your computer etc. In the STOP reason, this is the #s

Sounds like possibly more than the original hard disk drive got damaged.

Test the drive you are attempting to use (with the hard disk drive
manufacturer's diagnostics utility - usually found in the downloads section
of their web page) and also see if there is some special driver for your
controller you should load by pressing F6 during the installation.

What do you consider a "clean" installation of xp..The results youre posting
say the installation is not right.Try booting to xp cd (home),select
install xp,
new copy, delete the partition, create one,let xp format & install auto.

When exactly does this error appear?

To do a clean install, delete the partition at the beginning of the process.
Or, attach the drive to another system and delete the partition from there.

Delete the partition, or try another hard disk. If that one works, there's
more damage to the system than you understood.
