Double line tho centre of cell

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a solid double
line horizontally across the centre of a cell?

It's easy enough to get a broken double line using the "="
sign - but I cannot see a way of making this a continuous
solid line.

Jon,

How about the Drawing toolbar? Rightclick a toolbar, or the menu bar, click
on "Drawing" to activate it.

The Line tool (button) should be next to "AutoShapes". Click on it, then
click & drag on the sheet (hold down Shift to force a straight one). While
it's selected, you can hold down ALT and click & drag on the boxes at the
ends to snap to cell corners. Also you can use Up/DownArrow to nudge it.

Rightclick on it and choose "Format ...", you can set double Style on the
Colors and Lines tab. On the Properties tab, Move & Size w/Cells should be
set by default.

Explore the various symbol fonts in Windows (run Character Map -
charmap.exe - utility to make this easier.

There is a font called Terminal which is an old MSDOS one containing a
set of characters used for making boxes in a MSDOS fixed size font
screen. Character code 205 seems to do what you want. Try putting the
formula =REPT(CHAR(205),10) into a cell and formatting as Terminal
font.

Sorry Brian ; I was thinking in terms of cell input still being required,
rather than the old "drawing tables in Supercalc" method.

The only option here is to format cells with a diagonal line or us
StrikeThrough Font option
