doom 3 help required

hello, i recently bought doom 3, i installed it onto my time laptop which
runs on an amd athlon 2600+ processor, 512mb ddr memory, 60 gig hard drive,
32mb ati radeon 320gp graphics card. i have direct x and everything but it
jerks like hell even on the very lowest setting with every option switched
off. i know that my graphics card is under the minimum required by 32mb but
surely it would run ok on my system with all the other things

is it that the graphics card is unsupported? would i be able to download
any drivers or updates which would at least let me play the game without it
jerking all the time.

another thing which is interesting is that my uncle has a sony vaio with a
1.7gig intel 4 m processor, 512mb ddr memory and also a 32mb graphics card
(not sure of brand) and he can run it fine on a relatively good setting.

is their anything at all i can do to get it to run smootly even if the
resolution of the game isnt very good or will i have to buy a whole new
computer?

thanks very much for the help

Hea I had the same problem. I have 512 and p4 2.6 with everything shut down. game was very jerky and I had the latest drivers from nvidia mx440. This game was very unplayable. I went and purchased a radeon 9800 pro video card and a 430 watt power supply. Now I can play this beautiful game. This game will not play with min req. Make upgrades or buy new. You will love this game. Very scary!.

Well the graphics card is below the minimum requirements.

Like Matt said, upgrading is the only solution, a Radeon 9800 Pro would be a
good option price/performance wise.

Sticking in an extra 512MB of RAM will help too.

Compatibility Fix for Windows XP SP2 and certain 256 MB video cards:
Microsoft has identified a potential incompatibility between Halo for PC,
and Windows XP SP2 on certain high-end video cards. This issue causes Halo
to exit silently to the desktop immediately after launching the program
before the logo movies play. Systems which can get beyond that point are
unaffected by this problem, and will not benefit from this fix.

Note: You must patch Halo to the latest version (1.04) before applying this
fix. Please download Halo 1.04 (see above).

Microsoft has only seen this problem on computers with an Nvidia GeForce
5900 or 5950, or ATI X800 video card, and only on certain driver versions,
including the Nvidia drivers included by default in new installations of
Windows XP SP2.

Solution: Microsoft is providing an updated version of a file for Halo which
may be installed to fix this problem. Gameplay is otherwise unaffected by
this change.

1.. It is recommended that you only continue to install this fix if you
experience the specific problem noted above.
2.. Ensure you have the latest version of Halo (1.04) by running the
latest update (see above), or by checking the version number of the file
halo.exe, typically located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo. The
correct version number is 1.0.4.607.
3.. After verifying that you have the correct version, download the new
Strings.dll and save it to the location where Halo was installed, typically
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo. When prompted to overwrite the
existing file, choose Yes.
DOWNLOAD STRINGS DLL 1 MB
"http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/7/d/d7d479ae-4aed-4e6c-9565-0c97bfda7554/Strings.dll"

4.. Launch Halo to verify that it functions as intended. Note that if you
see the message "Corrupted Halo.exe", then Halo was not patched to the
correct version before applying this update - See step 2 above.
Note: Users of the Trial version who experience this problem should instead
download the corresponding version of the fix here:

DOWNLOAD TRIAL STRINGS.DLL 1 MB

Sorry, it's the video card.

I have a 2.6 P4, 1gig and had an older 64meg 2x(? might
be 1x) AGP ATI card.

The game was terrible. Couldn't get anywhere because of
the jerky frame rate even at the lowest setting.

Added a Nvidia 5700 w/256meg. 1 setting below max and it
screams.
