Anybody know when the Doom 3 demo is coming out? I'm holding of buying the
retail copy til I know how it handles on my machine and if I should upgrade.
Somethings telling me yes!

It's £18 delivered now anyway and theres plenty on ebay going for a song,the
pirated versions on there for sale are fetching more than the real ones lol

Wait a while longer and it will be even cheaper

Another 512 MB of RAM and a 9800Pro (the latter are relativly inexpensive

There is no single player in UT2004, you can play it alone against bots,
that does not make it single player.

Doom 3 is 99.8% single player with 4 mp maps thrown in as an afterthought.

If you're playing UT2004 single player or if you bought Doom 3 for
multiplayer you're a putz.

get your self a ATi 9800 pro or a Geforce FX 5900xt both have bang for bucks
and will run doom 3 and HL 2 just fine, other than that your 512mb Ram and
your oced 2400+ should be okay, but when A64 prices go low in about 3 to 4
months you might want to think about getting one, and by then the 6600 agp
will be out and you can get your self a Geforce 6800 for $250 benchmarks
shows the Geforce 6800 spanks Ati X800 in the a$$ in HL2 benchmarks.

Your CPU is adequate (esp. if running at 2700+). Vid card needs
upgrade. Memory is iffy but may work. FWIW I have a similar system
with 768 MB RAM and a 9800 Pro (128 MB) and doom3 runs well at
1152x864 medium detail.

in ATI's camp for leaking out a beta copy of Doom3. So, they switched cards,
and have handicapped all ATI cards so all but the most basic functions are
disabled and hence will not work!!! As far as I know, this is a rumor, but
until I hear otherwise, I sure as hell aint gonna plop down $50 for a game
that's handicapped for my 9800 pro!!!!!
Has anyone else heard this story?

Yes, from the usual NVidia FUD spreaders. ATI isn't *as* fast as
NVidia in OpenGL, but is still perfectly playable.

Yep it's absolutely true. id and Activision released a game that is
non functional on half the cards out there. Nobody with an ATI card is
buying Doom 3.

I'm not quite following?
I think Doom3 runs pretty well considering what kind of
lousy rig I have, xp1700+/512mb ddr400/9600pro 128mb.
"Timedemo demo1" gives around 30fps and game has been
fully playable using medium details - so far.

I guess my CPU starts to choke before Radeon, because
enabling anti-aliasing etc. eye candy doesn't slow the game
down too remarkably...
