Don't want bitmap!

Please help - when I try to save pictures on "My
Pictures" the file is untitled & it appears as bitmap -
want gif. All of a sudden I am having this problem; it
was fine for months. I notice other people are having
the same problem. An answer would be very much
appreciated. Thank you.
