The Uninstall actually works fine - the best thing Microsoft has written

All those rogue wininet.dll files gone!
FrontPage has now completed two Publish processes perfectly!

Since updating IE7 and associated achnges it makes, one of my websites
refuses to update correctly. It aborts the ftp and closes FrontPage with the
following error in the event viewer:

Time xxxxxxx Category: None
Type: Error Event ID 1000
User N/A
Computer xxxxxxx
Faulting application frontpg.exe, version 11.0.6552.0, stamp 424b714f,
faulting module wininet.dll, version 7.0.5730.11, stamp 454283b4,
debug? 0,
fault address 0x00001a35.

I'm running XP Home with all updates and service packs known to me, and Auto
updates turned on of course... But how come the browser update has affected
another Microsoft Application so badly? Did no one Beta this? I am completely
stuck, and frightened that restoring an earlier point will get me in a worse
situation if that doesn't work correctly (I've never needed to before, and
shouldn't have needed to now surely?).

couldn't wait any
longer as I need to do some work, so I decided to do a system restore. I
tried three restore points before my installing IE7 on 2nd November (2 on 1st
November and 1 on 31st October). None of them would restore.

31st Oct was a formal System Restore point, but it came back and said:
"Your Computer cannot be restored to 31st October 2006 System Checkpoint,
No
Changes have been made to your computer."
As this was my third attempt I suppose I have to give up on this "solution"
too?

When will MS acknowledge - let alone find the answer... PLEASE!!!

If you're running Windows 98, how did you even get IE7 to install.
Better yet, why did you even try.

IE7 and FrontPage work just fine on my XP SP2 machine.
( and Expression Web and SharePoint Designer )

This one Is a Dell Desktop with XP Right up to date.
JEEEZ - Take those blinkers off!

Again sadly you missed the point
I was very happy with XP - best OS MS has done, good updates etc.
I was very happy to try IE7 after IE6.
I am very happy using Frontpage (even if others think it is sloppy)
I was not happy when IE7 screwed Frontpage.
I would not have even looked at FF if it hadn't been for the tabs in IE7
That is all.

I find trolling insinuation offensive.
Ironic again you don't understand I'm happy that everything works now!
I'd have been EVEN HAPPIER if it had been IE7 as I wouldn't have wasted so
much time. Sad that the solution was to remove one MS product to get another
to work again.

I'm sad to say your reply only reinforces the point about blinkers. I've
been here before to try and sort out issues, but haven't needed to for ages.
This issue was a major blunder by MS.

In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established
community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause
disruption, most often in the form of posting inflammatory, off-topic, or
otherwise inappropriate messages.

I wanted 'on topic' solutions, but found nothing beyond - uninstall.
Tell me I'm wrong and I'll unreservedly apologise. (I'm English and know how
to).

Otherwise maybe you could?

Sheer frustration after a week of getting replies like:
- I should go somewhere else
- "It isn't a problem for me"
- Maybe I'm the cause of the problem
- I shouldn't be using FrontPage anyway

I have always shown full appreciation for people who gave a possible solution
Yet have stated my trepidation from past experiences.

I started this saga with the error codes and information from the event
viewer after the problem occurred. Nobody made any reference to this on-topic
very formal approach. Neither did anyone have any suggestions.

Nowhere in a reply is the acknowledgement that this is a genuine Microsoft
Issue

Is it any wonder things get desperate?
Obtuse (rferring to MS word's excellent synonyms)
If I have been 'insensitive' it is because I felt there was no real support
I felt I was anything but 'dull-witted' in my approach to some answers
'Simple-minded' hmmm that's what I felt I was up against most of the time.
'Imperceptive' hmmm ditto
'Thick Headed' dare I say it again? I didn't want a fight, I wanted help?
'Thick' (I can take it, though I think I'm reasonably erudite most of the
time)
'Stupid' (How thick skinned do I need to be.... stiff upper lip now man)
'Slow' Have you seen the responses?

At the IE and other discussion boards I was being told that I shouldn't use
FrontPage - all I wanted was a solution!

We read what we want to and ignore the rest it seems. I apologise if the
threads became too complicated, but the longer it goes on, the more there is
to read.

I only wish it was different.

Believeable? I believe it. I have various flavors of FP
installed on 4 machines using XP-Pro SP2 with IE in place.
Some of them also have EWD or VSW on them. I have no
problems with any of the machines publishing.

Lets analyze the situation. Other people have no problems
using the same OS-browser-editor combination as you. What is
different between my machines and your machine? What other
apps do you have on there? What SP level are you at with the
software packages. What add-ons are there?

That is your decision. FP is a powerful set of tools for web
developement. If used properly you can have great sites. If
used improperly you get crap and blame it on the software.

- Firefox 2 is brilliant
- Everything works, and I'd never even have looked at it if
it hadn't been for IE7
To each there own. If you are first discovering FF then you
have a lot to learn. I use 5 different browers and FF is #3
on that list
