Hello, I get this error message every time I try to access my remote pc. It is on a Linksys router and this error occurs when I try t o browse for connections. I have tried typing in the pc name and also tried to use the ip. The xp firewall is deactivated and the port 3389 is open and forwarded to that lan ip address. Any help on the would be great cause I have tried for hours to figure it out :(

I Don't know if this will help but I think you have to
enable dmz

No you don't have to enable the DMZ. If the Linksys Router's port forwarding is setup correctly you'll be able to connect from anywhere on the Internet

I'm confused about what you're describing when you say "this error occurs when I try to browse for connections". Browsing for available Terminal Servers will only work in an Active Directory Domain environment, and only Application Servers (Terminal Server) will show (not XP Pro desktops) up in the available Terminal Servers browse list. You can't browse the "Internet" for available connections, only your local network

Remote PC -> Remote Desktop Client -> Internet -> Linksys Router WAN IP Address, Port 3389 -> Logon to Remote Desktop Host

Here's a picture of how to configure the port forwarding

Replace 192.168.1.2 with the Private IP Address of the Remote Desktop Host you're trying to access

Thanks for the fast response, I have XP Pro... I have tried to browse through the local intranet, and also port forwarded the 3389 to my local ip of the remote pc. When I try to connect to the ip from the internet I get a different error message saying unavailable. From inside my LAN I get the local Terminal Server error. I am trying to connect using in this case 192.168.1.100 as your linksys port forwarding example sugests. Is there something else on the remote pc I am missing in the set up? I mean I have a user/password set up. I am allowing remote connections and the firewall is off ? Again any help would be great !!

disabled.

No problem Tom, I don't pick on others, as I don't like when others bash on me in SQL Programming Newsgroups for being a novice (not that you are)

The first thing you need to try is to open a local remote desktop connection and see if the logon screen comes up. What I mean is on the XP Pro machine go to Start -> Run -> mstsc -> localhost -> Connec

If the logon screen doesn't come up then your problem is not due to networking. but due to problems with the OS. You could also try "telnet localhost 3389"

Make sure the ICF is not running and that remote connections are enabled via the System Control Panel. More FAQ's that might help here
