Win2k Pro cannot be a Domain Controller, even though that is what you said,
I don't think that is what you were trying to say. Or is it?

Please clarify your question.

To have Dns to resolve host names, with WINS? I thought but I can't or maybe it won't, get a proper hosts file. I can't get Netbios to move it from being a workgroup. I haven't cleared in my mind what address WINS would have, I have never tried this before but from what I understand 10 Stations could belong to a Domain with 2000 PRO, If it was Netbios over Tcp/ip and WINS with a proper Lmhosts file could i not have DNS name resolution with access to the internet?

No Win2k Pro cannot be a Domain Controller, Win2k can only Authenticate its
own local security. You need Windows 2000 Server for a Domain Controller.
Windows 2000 Pro cannot be a WINS server either.

WINS cannot do internet resolution, WINS can only resolve host names for
machines in its database and does not use the DNS hierarchy.

It is very hard to follow what you are trying to do, it sounds to me like
you need to get Win2k or Win2k3 Server.

Ok, I got it, name resolving among the Group only.

Among the group or groups if your WINS has a replicating partner. The
example here is you can have two WINS servers at two location with a link
between them. Set the two WINS servers up as replicating partners, then
Network places theoretically will populate Network places on both networks
with all machines from both locations. This is done because NetBIOS
broadcast won't cross a router.
