Domain Laptop sharing home Workgroup resources

I have several outside sales reps that have laptops running XP Pro. These
laptops are members of the company domain. The problem is these home users
have home wireless networks and wish to use a shared printer that is
connected to a home desktop in a local workgroup environment.

Is there a work around that would allow a laptop that belongs to a company
domain use resources such as a shared printer in a home workgroup environment
(wireless)

Stan,

There are several issues that you have to deal with, when taking a computer
setup for a corporate domain, and connecting it to a home workgroup, to access
shared resources there.
# IP configuration (DHCP).
# Name resolution.
# Authentication / workgroup membership.
I've discussed each of these issues, in more detail, in my article.

Depending upon which issue your employees have a problem with, we can develop a
workaround. Just don't have them drop from the domain, to connect to their
various workgroups.

Assuming DHCP is used all around (as is usually the case), the simplest
solution is often to create a batch file that maps the shares (folders
and/or printers as applicable) on the home network and put a shortcut to it
on the desktop.
(This isn't the only solution but can be a real time saver for you by
avoiding the need to get involved in time consuming advice on issues like
net browser visibility, pro vs. home differences, etc.)

I have a sample batch file there called "EasyMap" that might help.
