Does windows xp automatically empy the recycle bin?

Does windows xp ever automatically empty the recycle bin? Or is that always a
manual operation?

Only manual, unless you have a third party program like CCleaner and have it
set to run automatically at a predetermined time such as on startup.

it's a manual operation; by default.
It is simply designed as a fail-safe idea, in case you delete something
accidently.

BUT, if you right-click on the Bin Icon>select Properties>
Tick the box "do not move files to the Recycle bin. Remove files immediately
when deleted">Apply>OK.

You can also hold down "Shift" as you are deleting things to bypass the Bin.

Manual, or with a third-party program.
