does Windows Defender detect the Virus Protect Pro spyware?

Hello Lance a.k.a daabomb2002

FYI

Well first off, don't click on it!!!

The latest in a long series of scamware releases is VirusProtectPro.
VirusProtectPro is a new rogue anti-spyware program released by the same
makers of SpyLocked, SpyCrush, SpywareQuake, etc

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic98222.html

As the previous programs in this family, VirusProtectPro is installed by
Zlob Trojans that are said to be audio or video codecs, but are in reality
Trojans. Once you run the setup program for these so-called "codecs", the
program will launch a DLL that downloads and installs VirusProtectPro and
then issues fake security alerts on your taskbar.

It is advised that if you are infected with this software, you do not
purchase it by any means.

Here is information on SpyHunter and the page you referenced here:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/xp...client_ver=ie_2.4.6066.0&client_type=IEPlugin

SpyHunter was de-listed at spywarewarrior back in 2004. However there is
still some questions concerning the transmission of the Windows Product ID
from users' PCs and it is judged there as mediocre in performance.

There's a better write-up on VirusProtectPro here:

Note that there is also a version 3.4 now.

Everyone dances around the issue. I am unable to locate a list of malware
that Windows Defender detects. So I have to say I really don't know.

Very true good reference Bob, thanks. I felt that I should react to the
xp-vista(dot)com page which was immediately red flagged by McAfee SA.
Also, if the OP really has Zlob (which I'm not totally convinced of) as
detected by SpyHunter, that infection can be dealt with by the Microsoft
Update MSRT without having to pay for the very questionable SpyHunter:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/encyclopedia/details.aspx?name=Win32/Zlob
and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=890830

I agree that the fact that SpyHunter is on their recommended list calls the
site into question. As to determining the existence of VirusProtectPro, it
should be listed in add/remove programs.

so is Dr Antispy or it can also be called Dr Antispyware
that is just like the other ones you noted Engel
I just spend hours getting that one off a clients computer and he was
bangled into paying for it. He talked to his credit company to remove the
charge and they are in the process of checking it all out.
