does such a motherboard exist?

Hi

I am after a mythical motherboard which meets the following specs - can
anyone recommend a motherboard:-

amd 64bit (preferably support the new dual core AMD 64bit processor)
Supports DDR2100 (so I dont have to buy new memory for now)
PCI express graphics card slot
Passive cooling on the the chipset so I dont get deafened by the tiny
buzzsaw cooling fan
Gigabit lan port

I am planning on buying a quiet psu, and a pci express Giga-byte 6600
card with a passive cooler.

I have found motherboards which meet some of the above criteria but not
one that matches them all?

Thanks for any help

TTBOMK (Dave will be able to advise you better than I can) PC2100 is
incompatible with a 64-bit board and, besides, many boards now have DDR2
support only (though there are a few dual support boards out there, though I
wouldn't advise mixing DDR and DDR2).

So you'll wait forever for a 64-bit board that supports PC2100 because none
will ever exist. It just isn't fast enough.

Get a different cooler, like a Zalman. My son had to replace that
piece of crap cooler that came with his retail box P4 Prescott.

For Intel Socket Pentium4 775/ 478, AMD 754/ 939/ 940.

It's huge (5.5" dia), made out of copper, has a large fan (120 mm) and
a "FAN MATE 2" control to make it quiet (" Does not generate noise or
vibration in Silent Mode").

$43.

IMO, it's not worth the time or other compromises you might
make, if you found the board you wanted but it had a
fan-cooled northbridge. It is the least of the
considerations since it is cheap to replace- even an old
Pentium 1 heatsink epoxied-on would be sufficient, or a $4
Zalman or similar.

Gigabit lan port

Common, just check the board specs before you buy one.
I am planning on buying a quiet psu, and a pci express Giga-byte 6600

How do you expect to cool it? Quite PSU typically means
lower flow rate, while passive video 'sinks need higher flow
rate. It IS possible, but you'll need more (low-RPM to keep
noise down) case fan(s).

I have found motherboards which meet some of the above criteria but not

Why buy a new board then cripple it with slow memory?
You're better off just waiting till you can buy all parts
simultaneously, at which point the board and/or CPU may be
cheaper (or you'd be able to get higher performance for same
price, or even newer board models to pick from).

If you are itching to buy something right now, get only the
memory- get good CAS2.5 or CAS2 memory and it can be used on
your current system till you're ready to get the other
parts.

Yes, but I thought he was also talking about the CPU earlier. Maybe I
have this thread confused with another one.

Gigabyte K8NF-9 best budget board out there if you ask me, I love this board

it has a heatsink for chipset instead of fan

not sure about the comment someone made earlier about DDR2 and stuff

PC2100 should work fine on this board, i haven't yet seen an AMD64 board out
there that supports DDR2 (just the intel boards)

i may be wrong but i dont think there is one (yet)

However kony mentioned earlier you can get zalman northbridge coolers for $6
or something, they should suffice, if you would rather buy a board with just
a heatsink already then K8NF-9 definately doesn't have a fan on chipset

hope this helps
