Does MS Spyware work on other browsers?

I use mozilla firefox primarily, I downloaded MS Spyware on
IExplorer. When I run firefox am I proteted or not? How or
can I configure it to protect firefox as well? is ther more
I need to do? thanx

Microsoft antispyware includes 59 checkpoints which it monitors. I can't
recall how many of these checkpoints are IE specific--but you can read their
descriptions and see.

Those checkpoints, obviously, aren't going to be protecting Firefox--but
they may well still be relevant--they are protecting the IE code which is
still on your machine and used by other apps, and by IE.

So--my understanding of the answer to this is yes you are protected.
Microsoft, or someone, could write Firefox-specific checkpoints that would
add additional protection similar to that provided for IE, but I wouldn't
hold my breath waiting for that. I did hear someone say that they'd heard
that Sunbelt might write something for their Counterspy product, which is
based on the same original technology. I wouldn't hold my breath for that
either.

I think that even without specific checkpoints for Firefox, Microsoft
Antispyware provides better real-time protection than anything else
available, whether you use Firefox or IE.

Because the majority of users use Internet Explorer, and the majority of all
spyware is written to take advantage of that large user base, MSAS is more
suited to protect IE more instead browsers such FireFox and Mozilla which
have small market share.

The user should be protecting the system - I don't use Adaware, Spybot, or
MSAS much less any other 3rd party spyware app on my home and work machines
and I have never gotten hijacked or had spyware installed on either machine.

I DO spend a LOT of time on the internet nonetheless.

Of course all the "machines" on my networks are all clean but I use tools to
keep them that way. How do you know if you don't use any applications to
detect spyware/malware? Anyone who doesn't use some type of detection tools
is just.......well......stupid. :)

hidden and system files, regedt32, and del?

Of course I have a current updated anitvirus program running on every
machine I support but the only machines I have ever had a problem with were
the Windows 2000 machines and maybe a couple XP before SP2. They had popups
for no apparent reason so a had a little look see and cleaned them up. I
have since eliminated the W2K machines and pushed everybody to SP2. SP2, AD
GP, and a couple registry tweaks and my world is clean.

Maybe I should say anyone who NEEDS a detection program to tell them spyware
/ malware is on their machines is ...just...well... stupid???


Aren't we being rather narrow?

most of the real-time protection protect IE from getting
injected with a spyware/adware, so firefox won't benefit
on the real-time protection, as the MSAS real-time
protection is only made for IE only and no other browser.
i guess when final version of MSAS is release i think
it's time for firefox user to switchback to IE again. too
bad firefox, firefox suck anyway
