Does EWF work or not?

Hi all,
Microsoft is supposed to answer this simple question: does EWF work on
Compact Flash or not? It seems not at all. Of course if you mark the CF
non-removable you succeed: it becomes like a regular HD!! But is this
utility available for all CF vendors? I found someone claiming to have
received it from SANDISK for SANDISK CF, no one vendors refer to it.
The procedure provided by Microsoft for setting EWF up on CF seems not work,
otherwise Microsoft should tell us what's wrong.
Pls answer!!!!
Regards,
Andrea

I'm not from Microsoft but... I did have a question for you, one which
Microsoft would probably want to ask as well. Have you installed the QFE
for SP1 that deals with EWF?

Yes, EWF does work on Compact Flash. By marking the media
as non-removable it allows the media to have multiple
partitions. Currently, removable media can not have
multiple partitions. This is the reason for having to run
the utility since, in normal configurations, EWF requires
at least 2 partions. The utilities to mark the media in
this manner are specific to the brand and must be obtained
from the manufacturer.

As an alternative you can configure EWF without a separate
partition. The following MSDN article outlines how to
achieve this (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-
us/dnxpesp1/html/XPESP1_CF_EWF.asp). Please note that
there are some restrictions to using this configuration.
These are outlined in the whitepaper.

Cheers,
Stephen
