Documents and Settings

Unfortunately, due to a crash and reinstall, some files got confused.
The subdirectories of C:\Documents and Settings are:

Administrator
Administrator.SANFORD-0D... (I do not understand the code here, and did
not copy it.)
All Users.WINDOWS (No Local Settings subdirectory)
Default User
Default User.WINDOWS
Sandy
Sandy.SANFORD-0D
SANDY~1~SAN (Empty)

What do you suggest to fix this?

Thanks.

Why bother if you are not experiencing any problems?

Some flaky things happen. E.g., open Control Panel. Message box: Resources not
available. I press OK. Then Control Panel comes up. It is no big deal. Just
thought you may have a simple solution.

Hi Sanford,

Please post the complete error message as seen on the display, which always helps. Are you seeing a low disk space notification, per chance?

I try to open Control Panel. A box appears:

Intel(R) PROSet
Resources are not available

!

OK

I press OK, and then the control panel comes up.

Intel PROSet Control Panel applet is displaying the error message.

Workaround:

Download/Install/Run TweakUI
Click "Control Panel"
Uncheck "Intel PROSet" (to hide it)

TweakUI download links:

TweakUI v2.00 for Windows XP/XP MCE [564 KB].

I try to open Control Panel. A box appears:

OK

I press OK, and then the control panel comes up.

Do you mean
prapplet.cpl - PROSetApplet Module

What does unchecking this do?

Well, I unchecked it, and it worked.

The problem happened after I reinstalled Windows after replacing the hard disk. I probably did something wrong with the reinstall and files restore.

Thanks!

Control Panel will no longer load that applet.

I have the same one and it allows you to troubleshoot or set options for
an "installed miniport"; an Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection. I
suppose that if your NIC is working, or you don't use the one onboard,
you shouldn't need this applet. When you reinstalled, you probably lost
the drivers for that device.. they're probably on a CD that came with
the original purchase.
