Documents and Settings folder

John

Hello,

I only have one user account on windows xp professional,
and this is the computer administrator. I want to change
the name of the user to something else, but when I do,
the folder inside C:\Documents and Settings\ that holds
my setting remains in the name that was there before. In
addition, the 'My Documents' folder does not get re-
titled to 'John's Documents' like it did with 'Guests
Documents'. I would have no problem deleting this account
and starting afresh but I dont know how to do that!

Also, in the folder I deleted the 'My Music' folder and
now I want it back! If i create my own it doesn't come
out with the nice musical note pictures! How do I bring
it back from the dead??

Many Thanks for your time.

John

Not sure about the account as I only use 1 account. As for getting the icon
back for the music folder get hold of tweakui from microsoft and you will
find there is a fix for the custom folder icon.

First make sure your not using the hidden system administrator user account.
If you created a user for yourself to use then you would not be using the
hidden admin account. If you never created a user for yourself and are using
the administrator account, then simply go into control panel, user accounts,
and add a new user to use. Leave the hidden admin account alone. If you have
a user setup now and want to change the name and have it reflect in the
folder names, you have to delete the old user and then create a new one with
the correct name. This is done in control panel, user accounts.

You can't change names of accounts (at least not at all reliably or
safely). What you have to do is set up a new account with the new name
(and still Admin status), then logon to that and copy items across from
the file store of the old account. You will probably need to 'Take
Ownership' I suggest also that you export settings, especially for
Outlook Express if you use it, so as to import them back - you might
find Files and Settings Transfer Wizard helpful. read Gary Woodruff's
article on Files and settings Transfer at

Once all data is safe in the new account, delete the old one - but make
sure you always have one with Admin status
