Documents and Settings, Access Denied

hi,
my primary hard drive running windows 2000 got a nasty Trojan and does not
boot up. I placed my primary hard drive on another computer running windows
XP as a secondary drive. I can detect the hard drive and access everything
except my user profile under documents and settings. Everytime i try i get
an Access denied message. I've scanned and removed all of the virus'
already, i've tried logging in as administrator, i've also tried accessing it
through DOS but no luck. My best guess is that there is some kind of
permissions issue here, does anyone have a solution i need the information on
the hard drive.

thanks

You need to take ownership of the files/folders:

File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421]

You should try to take ownership of the folders - maybe the entire drive -
from the WinXP machine.

Right-click the root folder (or drive) and select Properties.
Select the Security tab - you may see an invalid reference in the 'Group or
user names:' text box which may be your access permissions from the Win 2000
machine.
Click the Advanced button to take you to the Advanced Security Settings.
Look at the Owner tab.
Can you select your WinXP (admin) account?
If so then select Change owner to <your admin account> and select also the
check-box Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Click Apply and it should go to work and reclaim access to your files - it
may take a while if you choose to take ownership of the entire drive.

Martin.
