doc to wpd - HELP

I know this isn't the best place to post this, but I need help. I need to
convert a Word document to a WordPerfect document. We us Office XP and the
version of WordPerfect doesn't matter...the formatting needs to be as intact
as possible (yeah, right). It must have a wpd extension, so rtf won't work.
It's for a federal court and they aren't lenient AT ALL. Does anyone have any
recommendations? Thanks.

You can do a save as and save the document as a Wordperfect for Windows, or
WordPerfect for DOS, and then rename the document to assign the WPD.
Assigning the WPD extension at save time just added an extra extension so I
would up with docname.wpd.doc.

Renamining it from a directory window will not alter the contents, although
there may have been formatting in the original Word document that did not
translate over very well in the initial save.

Thank you for your reply. I've tried what you have suggested in the past and
when I attempt to open a document in WordPerfect 7 or WordPerfect 2000 (to
check to make sure it will open) I get an unsupported format error. I've used
all the WordPerfect conversion templates in Word XP to no avail. I've tried
saving a Word document as an rtf in Word and then opening it in a version of
WordPerfect to save it as a true WP document and I get the same "unsupported
format" error. I suppose this is ultimately a Corel problem, but I can't even
find a piece of 3rd party software that claims to do a Word to WordPerfect
conversion (there are plenty for WP to Word, though). What I ultimately do is
copy/paste the Word text to Wordpad, save it in WordPad, open it in
WordPerfect, and basically reformat it. I was hoping someone might know a
more straigtforward way since when we have to do this it's usually under a
time crunch and it does take a while. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

Get the old word perfect filters from the downloads page of my web site.
Install the filters as instructed.
Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text
Converters\Export\WrdPrfctWin
Change the value of the extensions sub key from doc to wpd.
Word will then allow you to save as Word Perfect 5.X for Windows with the
extension wpd.
Note you can save from Word with any extension if you put quotes around the
name thus
"filename.wpd" which will override the defaults.
