Do I or do I not have SP2???

O

Old Geaser

Windows XP Home
Set to automatic download updates, install after I ok.

In System Properties
XP Home Version 2002 Serv Pack 1

System Information
Version 5.1.2600 Serv Pack1 Build 2600

The above would lead me to believe I have SP 1 only

In Add/Remove along with the Hotfix Kxxxx There is 2 that are Hotfix (SP2)
Q814995 and Q 819696

Using Belarc Advisor it says Windows XP SP 1, but under Hot fix installed
there is the following

SP 2
20 Qxxxxx Verified
5 Qxxxxx not checked
13 Kxxxxx Verified
1 Kxxxxx not checked

Just curious if I have SP2. I suppose when I download SP 2 and try to
install I will find out.

No, you don't. Those are just security updates from SP2 that were released
awhile ago.

You do definitely only have SP1, those SP2 items were hotfixes labelled that
way just to make things even more confusing.

Go to Control panel>System. Under the General tab it will tell you what SP
you have.

SP2 is not yet avialable on windows update (will be staring 8/16). That
was a poor way of disignating some of the later hotfixes, but the SP2
designation just means it was going to be including later in the full
SP2 release. So you are still at SP1.

You have SP1, not SP2. Regarding the hotfixes labeled "SP2,"
Microsoft's nomenclature is very confusing here; you're far from
the first person to be confused by this. These hotfixes were
candidates to be included in SP2, not SP2 itself.

If you enable *Show Windows version on desktop* it looks even more like one
has SP2.

Quite a few components that went into SP2 came out earlier as individual
hotfixes; they show in this way

You DO have Service Pack 2 IF:
1) You personally installed one of the Service Pack 2 betas.
or
2) You personally installed one of the Service Pack 2 Technical
Previews.
or
3) You downloaded and installed the Network Install of Service Pack 2
from Microsoft's download site.
or
4) You have Automatic Updates turned on and the date is equal to or
greater than August 16th, 2004, and Automatic Updates has delivered
Service Pack 2 to your computer.

To settle the matter, simply run "winver" from "Start/Run". If you
have Service Pack 2, it will show up in the resulting dialog.

I definately have SP2 on account of having installed SP2.
