Do I need a new browser?

I

In recent days, when I'm on the web, the page would freeze then close on its
own. Or if I press ctrl+alt+delete it's 'Not Responding'. I am still able to
move the mouse however.

It does this on any site it seems. I was recommended to upgrade my web
browser to firefox, since internet explorer 6 is known to do that. But I have
IE 7.

I am very reluctant to follow the suggestion of installing firefox because
I've used IE for years and have never encountered that problem before. So I
have doubts that using firefox will fix the issue.

Is there another cause for this "freeze" issue or do I simply need to just
follow what was recommended?

1. Internet Explorer stops responding, stops working, or restarts

IE should work. I've never had a web site lock up the computer as much
as that. Yes, a few pages aren't perfect and a few are slow etc, but
freeze?! No.

I doubt that Firefox will help and it surely won't hurt, it will at
least help isolate the issue. I use Firefox rather than IE. You might
enjoy it. Its not going to cause any issue to test it and if you
install it, it can be removed easily. It does not conflict with IE
other than the "do you want this to be your default browser" question,
you either answer it all the time or check the box so it does not ask
anymore. I still use IE now and then. Firefox allows a lot of
add-ons that are kinda cool. And a lot of different appearance tweaks
too, different fonts, icons etc. If you're into that.
