DNS Pointing to External WWW

Guest

My website is hosted on an external server. My clients cannot connect to it
without using a proxy.

If I wanted to create a record in DNS to point to the server IP/domain name.

What type and where would I include it?

I'm going to assume your external name and internal AD name are the same? If
so, under your current AD zone name in DNS, create an 'A' record, call it
'www' (without the quotes) and type in the actual external IP address.

If the internal/external names are different, then you can create a zone
called thatdomain.com (or whatever your domain is called) and create two
records: one, create a www record as above, and two, create a blank record
as well (so you can get to it by using http://thatdomain.com without the www
in front of it) by rt-clicking, new HOst name, leave the name portion blank,
and give it the IP. It may bark at you saying you can't do that, but just
say yes anyway and you're good to go.

In the first same name scenario, it is difficult to create a blank record
because the DCs register a blank record to identify themselves for AD
functionality, and you don't want to alter that.

sorry about the URL Subject is Adding Second Controller Produces-
Error Pop3
You mean this below is yours? My answer is below...
============================
I have a small network with one controller using
AD-DHCP-DNS-EXCHANGE

I installed a standalone computer then used DCPROMO to convert it to a
controller to exist within the same domain.

The replication of the AD from controller one to controller two succeeded
and also many records were automatically added to controller ones' DNS.

When this happens clients using POP get this error "10061 connection
refused" Exchange still operates during this time.

This problem seems to occur at regular intervals. Stops and Starts ie: every
15 minutes.

The only way I could get POP to work again was to delete the DNS records
from the second controller. However I am not sure which one (or more) did
the
trick.

What did I do wrong?
============================

If you're using POP3, then you'll have to add the record in DNS for the
external mail server as well, just as you did the www record!
