DNS Pointer issue

I am helping some one to troubleshoot DNS issue on 2000
DC. When doing nslookup, we receive this message: Can't
find server name for ....: No response from server. I
believe this is PTR issue. So I tried to create a Pointer
to point ip 192.168.1.1 to the server host name, server1.
The Name shows 1 instead of 192.168.1.1. Then I tried
another DC and get the same result. It looks like this:
192.168.1.x Subnet 1 Point server1
Any ideas?

That is not an error message, but a status message that nslookup displays
after it tries to get the server name for the server IP so it can display
it. Can be ignored. If you really want to, just setup a reverse zone for
that IP range in your dns server.

Hi William, Thank you for the reply. I already had a
reverse lookup zones. The problem is when creating a
pointer, it shouws last IP # (1 in our case) instead of
whole ip, 192.168.1.1. Take look your DNS reserve lookup
zones it should be the whole IP.

You believe incorrectly. The immediate cause of the error message is
that the relevant server isn't responding to queries, irrespective of
what data are in your DNS database. The underlying cause of the
message is that you are using a broken DNS diagnosis tool. Stop.
