DNS or TCP/IP problems?

I have posted again as I did not get an answer to my
previous post. I am running XP Pro SP1, connecting to my
isp through a " modem " provided by them, and hooked up
to my nic. It is a wirless ISP. I am having problems
connecting to my Internet Explorer. The only thing that I
get is " This page cannot be displayed" error. I had
previously accessed the internet before with this
connection and without any actions on my part, I am no
longer able to connect.
I can ping my ISP, they can ping me. When I do an
ipconfig /all, I get the correct info. When I do an
nslookup, I get an error message that DNS has timed out,
cannot find hostname for (IP address) default servers not
available.
I can connect using dial up, and do the same nslookup,
and I get my wirless ISP info and not my dial up ISP
info.I can connect to one of my p2p programs, and my MSN
Messenger, and thats about it.
I have done a winsock repair, uninstalled and re-
installed IE, tried the modem on another computer( with
success), done an lsp-fix, uninstalled TCP/IP and re-
installed, and made sure that all of my settings are
correct. I have actually tried them with both auto IP and
user configured IP ( neither worked ) and done a fresh
new XP pro install. My ISP says that everything looks
good from their end, and that since it works on a
different computer, it is not their equipment.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

This is not clear: you say "wireless ISP" yet the modem is connected to
an ethernet NIC? You then recieve the wireless to the modem, ethernet
to your computer? Is there a router involved, or does the modem also
have switched ethernet ports? Can you access the modem GUI (say
http://192.168.100.1, typical for modems)?

This is a long shot, but do you have a firewall in the mix? If so,
disable it. If ZoneAlarm, remove it entirely from add/remove programs.
If using the Windows firewall, disable it. See if that helps. Open the
TCP/IP properties of the connection, General tab, advanced properties,
Options tab, TCP/IP filtering, check the box Enable filtering, and make
sure that Permit All is set for all ports and protocols. Leave the
filtering Enabled for a test.

What kind of authentication does the ISP require for the service? Does
each computer need a special network name? Does the workgroup or domain
need to be specified? Was it set up for the other computer? If so,
shut down the modem and problem computer for a few minutes, reboot the
modem and then boot the problem computer after the modem has booted
completely. Does that help?

Lastly, check into http://www.broadbandreports.com and see if there is a
forum for your ISP, or post to one of the general wireless ISP forums.

BTW, Google for winsockxpfix.exe. Try that in addition to lspfix.exe.

My ISP is a wireless ISP, kind of the same principals as
cell phone technology, it has a "radio" or gateway that
is connected to my ethernet card. There was nothing to
really set up on this computer except setting the TCP/IP
settings to auto configured. I get the default gateway,
DNS servers, and subnet mask all from my ISP. They have
sent me an lsp repair tool as well as a winsock repair
tool. I also have done an uninstall of the winsock
registry deletion and re-install as well as re-installing
TCP/Ip over itself. The other computer that I tested it
on to make sure that it wasn't the ISP's equipment took
no set up or setting changes for it to work.

Reseting my TCP/Ip filtering back to accept all instaed
of accept only must have been a help in getting my
internet connection back or something. I am now able to
connect at 10.0 Mbps and browse anywhere. Thanks to all
that have helped with this issue.
