DNS not working after major problems

Derick Theobald

I'd be grateful for any help.

I have a laptop running win2000 pro (latest updates etc)
which I use for business and being prudent I back it up to
a Win98 PC (thankfully and it is this one). To make life
easier I tried installing a USB network cable rather than
the bridge. However due what I think was the
firewall/virus scanner, the installation completely messed
up the laptop and started creating devices and
loading/replacing drivers.

I've almost finished putting it back together and now have
the ability to created an internet connection but the DNS
service does not appear to be working. I can ping a
computer on the internet, but using the www.name does not
work at all.
If it is of any relevance, the Net Logon service will not
start due to error code 5737 which does not appear to be
in the Microsoft KB in an form that appears to help.
I really need to get back on the internet, so all help
gratefully received.

Thanks

Derick

I have similar issues. I get error 126 module not found.
I can do tracert and ping by IP only. Nslookup does not
work (error 'server not found'). Certain services like
Ipsec Agent Policy, WWW, FTP Publishing services stopped
running too. Looks like path of module or module itself
may be missing.

Appreciate if anyone can shed some light.

How does an ipconfig/all look?

There shouldn't be 2 DNS-numbers. Everything should be pointing to your
server-IP or router-IP.
