DNS Monitoring

I am trying to run a test on my DNS server from monitoring
tab. The simple query passed the test. However,
recursive query failed.

My set up is as follows:

This dns server sits on the lan. I have a forward lookup
zone xyz.local defined. I have (A) records for all of the
machines on the local network defined. I have reverse
lookup entries for all of the machines. I have setup
forwarder to point to ISP dns server and DON'T USE
RECURSION checkbox is checked. The DNS server network
interface points to 127.0.0.1 as preferred dns server.
Also, I specified the default gateway. The gateway is ISA
firewall.

Could someone tell me what these tests look for?

Should I make sure that these tests are successful before
I do anything?

Can anyone tell me what the issue is?

Thanks in advance

Change your IP to the actual IP and not the loopback, which apparently
DCPROMO put in there for you. Only use the internal DNS IP and no others,
just in case there are any others in there, since you mentioned the loopback
was the "preferred" and seemed to imply there was another in there.

If you are using ISA, then you have to allow rules for the Forwarders to
send lookups out and the response back in. UDP/TCP 53 is what it will be
looking for. You may also need the firewall client installed. For more info
on ISA and specifics, I would post to the ISA newsgroups.
