dns and replication issues

we are experiencing various dns / replication issues ... we have 1 win2k
domain with several dc's in different sites - within the ad integrated dns
we seem to have lost various sites

under the _msdcs then the tcp or _sites folders one of our sites no longer
appears at all, including server records or in fact any records of the 2
servers in dns - the only records of these servers left showing in dns is
name servers record and a host record .... under the _sites folder it doesnt
show this particular site at all and that goes for all the sub folder
beneath the zone.

on another site similair problem but 2 of the regions sites arn't in dns at
all - i havent checked them all yet but im not sure we have a complete dns
record of all sites. what could cause this?

is the sites folder under the zone in various folders populated when you add
sites into sites and services? as the records for all are still there ....

any ideas?

The quickest diagnostic too for such problems is DCDiag but the most likely
issues will be resolve by the following:

DNS server (set) must be dynamic
All clients AND this includes DCs, DNS, and other servers much specify
the dynamic DNS server (set) ONLY in their NIC properties.
If you alter either the dynamic or the DCs, then restart NetLogon
service

To add, a single label DNS domain name can cause this too.
