dllcache

My dllcache folder which was full of items all of a sudden is blank. Have
folders set to show hidden files etc. Try to "run" dllcache & it comes up
with the same empty folder. Any ideas on where all this stuff disappeared to
& how I can get them back? TIA Gimpy.

Scan the system for malware and run the System Restore tool.

Thanks dd but I do run about 5-6 different anti-virus/malware programs
several times a week. latest was today & I'm clean as best I can tell. My
system restore wasn't working so I turned it off & then restarted so I can't
go back more then a few days & really have no idea when all this stuff
disappeared .

Well, a strange encounter like that does not come out of the blue.

In this case, there is no easy way to restore that folder since its
content depends on a couple of factors (OEM version vs. Retail version,
RTM version installed first and updated with SP1/SP2 vs. WinXP SP1/SP2
installed first). A repair install might help:

Note that all available system updates have to be reinstalled when done.

Could be you ran "sfc /purgecache". Could be anti-malware software
cleared it out after finding malware (and might even reset security
zone settings, flush temp dirs, etc.). Run "sfc /scannow" to refresh
dllcache with the registered versions of the protected system files.
Have your install CD ready for it to retrieve the files from there,
and run Windows Update afterwards.

You sure Explorer is configured to show hidden files (or that you used
"dir /ah" in a DOS shell)?

Thanks Vanguard. running sfc/scannow & using my disk did the trick.
Sorry to be so late but was out of town for a few days. Gimpy
