disproportional am't of space being used on my hard drive

i don't know much about computers, but it seems to me that
something about the following numbers is wrong.

0.57G +(total size of folders i save to)
1.41G (total size of Program Files)
-------
1.98G (total of my folders and Program Files)

10 G - (total size of my hard drive)
3G -(free space)
2G
-----
5G (total space being taken up by i don't know what)

is that normal?

is it normal for one's documents and settings folder to be
2.45G?

is it normal for one's admin/local settings to be 1.82GB,
with most of that comprised of stuff in a folder called
temp (1.47GB)?

is it normal for there to be at least three Temporary
Internet Files folders?

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files (81.1MB)

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files (27.4MB)

C:\Documents and Settings\my name\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files (154MB)

is it normal for the file with my name on it in documents
and settings to be 241MB? and i am not sure whether i told
you that i do not store things in the default "my whatever"
folders in here, so this 241MB is composed entirely of
stuff i have nothing to do with.

is it normal for C:\WINNT to be 980MB?

what can i delete? temporary internet files? stuff in:

C:\Documents and Settings\my name\Local Settings\Temp
and
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

why do i need an administrator folder and a folder with my
name on it? i am the only one who uses the computer,
couldn't i combine these two folders and get some more space?

i know it is a boatload of questions, but geez, i haven't
been able to find *anything* useful in the knowledge base.
and please let me know if you know of any tutorials or
anywhere that i can find the info i need on my own.

any assitance would be greatly appreciated

You're not using a disproportional amount of disk space. You just haven't
deleted your temporary files often enough.

a. Delete the contents (not the folders themselves) of the three temporary
files folders you mentioned. Don't delete any of the desktop.ini system
files .

b. Do a. more often and you'll have more space. :)

Windows 2000 has a built-in utility called "Disk Cleanup". Look in the index of
Windows help for "cleaning drives, Disk Cleanup" for more info.

After running the above utility, check the disk usage again and report back with
any perceived abnormalities.

Thanks, Walter - i will try that tonight... is there
anything else i can delete? i think i can delete the
stuff in History, but is there anything i can delete in
the Temp file?
