display shrinks when changing screen resolution

Okay first off I have a Fujitsu t4220 (tablet pc). When I change my screen
resolution (which is set in 1400 x 1050) to something less resolution (ie
1024 x 768), the display screen just shrinks without actually comforming to
the entire screen. How can I fix this?!?!?

Three things: 1) Fujitsu's not really helping me, they're just beating
around the bush.
2) Fujitsu did say that my screen display should be 1024 x 768 not 1400 x
1050.
3) My tablet had Vista Business but the university I'm at has a deal with
Microsoft to upgrade to Vista Ultimate, which I did. But this was not done
by Fujitsu. So could this be the problem? Switching from Business to
Ultimate?

ANY help would really be appreciated...

Do you have the latest driver for your display? I believe it's here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...32-bit+version&lang=eng&strOSs=156&submit=Go!

Too, make sure that in Control Panel\Personalization > Display Settings >
Advanced Settings, on the Monitor tab, that "Hide modes that this monitor
cannot display" has a checkmark, if that option is available.

Also make sure that your tablet pc utility drivers/software are installed:

Assuming you are talking about the built in screen then Fujitsus spec shows
it as having a 1024 x 768 screen so they are correct.

Have you been in device manager and deleted the display and rebooted so it
will redetect?

That's probably the reason Fujitsu aren't much help. It shouldn't screw the
display.

Hello stephen.. I see that all the time..

listen, after you change the resolution via windows,
then you have to adjust the size of the display from the controls on the
screen itself. Most screens have buttons,
or knobs that usually have an on screen display menu..
and the options are usually vertical size and position and horizontal size
and position.

Perhaps you can find the screen manual as a booklet, or find it online as a
pdf from the screens site.

Hope this helps

From the web: that model has an option for an SXGA+ screen, if that is what
you have then 1400x1050 is correct native resolution.

Actually yes I opted for the SXGA+ screen, but still shouldn't I be able to
change my screen without problems?

I tried downloading that driver but it'll strat downloading then all a sudden
it'll stop and says, "The driver being installed is not validated for this
computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's
manufacturer.

Setup will exit." So any other ideas on this?

My Laptop (Dell inspiron 8100, Windows XP) has native resolution of
1400x1050. When I change it to 1024x768 the entire screen is occupied.
So yes it should expand to the entire screen. Perhaps when you upgraded you
ended up with the generic Microsoft drivers rather than the ones for your
actual video system. If you check the driver tab of the Device Manager entry
for display adapters it should reference something other than 'microsoft' as
the driver supplier.

Also in your update did you go to 64bit from 32 bit? If so then the 32 bit
drivers will not work and specific 64 bit drivers will have to be
downloaded. (64 bit systems are also much pickier about having the drivers
signed).

Again on my Dell (XP), Display Properties,
Settings Tab
Advanced Button
I have a tab for my GeForce2Go display adapter.
That brings up another dialog that allows me to select my 'Flat Panel
Display'

In there is a option set for Digital Flat Panel Options with three options
Use Display Adapter Scaling
Use Centered Output
Use Fixed Aspect Ration Scaling

My current selection is Use Display Adapter scaling
In the context of my different operating system and hardware it would appear
that you would have the equivalent of 'Use Centered Output'

You may have to wander around in your display setting to find the equivalent
menue/dialogs for your configuration. Sorry I cannot be of more help,
hopefully someone with a setup closer to yours will step in.

I have an old Sony laptop that does something similar. Its native
resolution is 1024 by 768. If I choose something smaller, like 800 by 600
then it just uses that smaller area from the center of the screen. I don't
know whether this is just natural for the video chip or the video driver. I
hope someone comes up with a fix.

My newer Compaq laptop will stretch the smaller resolution to fill the
screen, which makes it a little fuzzy but is much more readable for what I
am doing.

Hmm. According to the specs found here

http://www.fujitsu.com/sg/services/computing/pc/products/notebook/t4220/specs.html

the chipset is Intel® GM965 Express Chipset.

The driver (Intel965GM_V1244.zip), offered by Fujitsu, here

http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/support/drv_lb_vista_t4220.html

is just an older version (7.14.10.1244) (April 4, 2007) of the same driver,
from Intel.

The driver I gave you a link to is directly from Intel, and is the latest
(7.14.10.1322) (August 31, 2007). According to the ReadMe, it's for "Mobile
Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset". Do this:

Right-click on Computer and choose Manage. Open Device Manager, and expand
Display Adapter. What is the name of the device? Double-click the device,
and, on the Driver tab, what is the date and version info? I'm wondering,
perhaps, if you might actually have the Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset,
which would not have the embedded graphics driver...

Well in that case there is probably a driver option to enable stretching so
it fills the screen (there was on my old laptop with Intel graphics and
there is on this one with nVidea graphics).

However I have to ask why you want to set it to 1024x768 and stretch the
screen to fit as that will result in an inferior display on an LCD panel.

If its to make things look bigger that is not the way to do it and you
should look at changing the DPI settings and/or the icon settings.
