Display Properties

I just recently installed Windows Vista. I have all the latest updates that
are available. When i first installed, all windows and backgrounds were
black. I fixed that by going into safe mode and downloading the Nvidia
Geforce drivers for Vista.

When i go to Display Properties the computer locks up. If i let it sit there
for about 5 minutes then i can use the computer again but the Display
Properties does not show up.

Specs:
Intel P4 2.66ghz
GeForce FX 6800 GT
2gb ram

Same issue with a 6150. Until I installed Nvidia's Beta driver Vista
detected two monitors (only had one) when connected via DVI. If I tried to
disavle the second phantom monitor, Vista would lock solid. Once I updated
the drivers, it still see two screens, but the phantom screen is disabled
(and not extending my desktop).

Switched to VGA becuase of the screen on/off everytime a confirmation dialog
appeared (very annoying). But the screen is very washed out via VGA.
