Display Properties Change

M

Matt

I've posted this before... can anyone help me with this?

I have Windows XP home edition... Upgrade from Windows ME.
I have two accounts set up, both with administrative
rights.

On my account (the main and original one) the following
strange thing keeps happening.

Always, soon after logging in (it can take from 2-15
minutes)my diplay properties keep changing to:

Windows and Buttons: "Windows XP Style"

Color Scheme: Olive Green

This change is accompanied by a beep from the system
speaker.

The display properties appearance change to the above
every time. Usually after the change I re-set to a
different color sheme. and again... THe next time I log
in, soon after, it beeps and changes to the above scheme.

Now... Also... when I get frustrated and just leave the
scheme on Olive Green, XP style I will still get a system
speaker beep + a flicker of all elements affected by the
color scheme (toolbar, windos etc). What is happening
here is, it is changing from Olive Green scheme to Olive
Green!!

This is getting really frustrating... especially since
this problem seems to be limited to the one account. I
have virus scanned numerous times with AVG (with latest
updates) but turned up nothing. I can't figure it out.

It seems to be tied to when I am using internet explorer,
but I am not 100% sure.

Anybody have any idea?

Turning Red.... Matt

How odd, Matt. Had you previously been using a third
party desktop manager,

No, not at all. I am considering deleting my account and
then re-creating it... last resort though. Thank you for
your suggestions, I will give them a try.

I tried the ones you previously suggested and they didn't
work.

The system speaker beep is what really gets me.

If it helps the PC is a Dell w/ a Pentium III 933mHz

Thanks again!

Matt

Most welcome, Matt and most interesting. Do me a favor, if you haven't
deleted the profile yet.....export this key before and after the changes are
made and send them to me via email.

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\ThemeManager

For your interest, in the right pane make note of what is listed for
DllName.
