Display background

I have windows XP. On one of the accounts I can't change the background
display. When I go to the desktop tab, the images don't load and no changes
are allowed other than the colour. I have tryed the customize desktop and
web tab. The only thing is current homepage, so I know that this isn't the
prob. I also tryed the regedit and there isn't anything there other than
the default. My son was doing a project where he downloaded a few images of
the planets and I don't know if this has caused the problem. All the other
tabs on the display properties menu tab work. Any suggestions would be
appreciated...

1. Click Start - Run - type GPEDIT.MSC
2. Expand to
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Control Panel
Display
3. Check the value of "Prevent Changging Wallpaper".
4. If it is set to "Not Configured" or "Enable" then double-click on it
change it "Disable"
5. Try changing your wallpaper again.

If that doesn't work or you have Windows XP Home edition then try:

1. Click Start - Run - type REGEDIT and press enter key.
2. Expand to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Policies
ActiveDesktop
3. On the right-side pane delete the entry "NoChangingWallpaper"
4. Close the registry and try changing your wallpaper.

Hope this information helps you, let us know!

I tried the first suggestion. No joy. Tried the regedit. What I have is NO
HTML Wallpaper. Should I delete this? I'm worried I'm going to mess up my
computer completely.

One more thing, the first suggestion. There is a folder called don't load.
Is this the problem? It doesn't look like it belongs there.

Help !!!!!!!!

You can safely remove "NoHTMLWallpaper" entry within from registry. Will not
cause in harm to your Windows. There is nothing to do with "Don't Load". See
the following link for more information (same apply to Windows XP):

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/regentry/93225.mspx?mfr=true

Check if this helps you. Moreover, the main cause could be because of the
following:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/regentry/93225.mspx?mfr=true

Further, have you change the settings in GPEDIT's

User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Control Panel
Display
PreventChanggingWallpaper

If it is set the "Not Configured" or "Enable", set it to "Disable". See if
this one help. You should also check your computer for malware and spyware.

If nothing comes to help you, read the following discussion:

Hope this information helps you, Let us know.

I found it on some other forum.

A key in your registry is probably pointing to a deleted file refered to as
desktop.html

If you go into your regedit and follow this path: HKEY_CURRENT
USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/POLICIES/SYSTEM

In there you may see a key that points to the C:\Windows\Web\desktop.html

If you see that key DELETE IT. Your virus software probably found this
hijack desktop viruz and deleted the infected file already. "

Hope this one help you, let us know!

Brilliant! When all else failed this worked! Yes, I had removed some adware
from that account with the anti virus program so this was the cause of the
display problem. I'll have to try and remember this one.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
