Display and entering name issues

K

Kawani

I have trolled through the questions here and found similar problems to mine
but none of the suggestions I've tried have fixed my problem.

Firstly, I have Office 2007 on a new computer and I am dealing with entering
new contact details not existing ones. Nor am I dealing with imported
contacts.

When I enter a name in the Full Name field as Fiona Marshall, it will place
Fiona in the last name area and Marshall in the full name area. If I then go
into the "Check Full Name" box, and change the first name from Marshall to
Fiona and the last name from Fiona to Marshall. The full name will then
display as Marshall Fiona.

I have go into account settings and changed tried it in both settings.
Neither of which seemed to make a difference to the full name field.

I have also gone into the contact options area and tried a variety of
different settings with the full name and file as settings. And no matter
what I try if I enter the full name as Fiona Marshall it still thinks
Marshall is the First Name and Fiona the Full Name.

This does only seem to effect the full name entry - the file as picks up the
last name and first name correctly.

Does this happen with every single entry you make or only ones with
ambiguous first/last names?
Does this happen in every view of your Contacts or only some?
I have never seen Outlook fail to abide by your settings if you parse the
name elements yourself. Did you migrate any of your Outlook data to this new
installation?

It happens with every entry I make. It happens in every view and when
entering the information. I have not migrated any data to my new computer as
my old one died and took everything with it.

Specify the setting you are using for the Full Name field.
As I said, it is unwise to use the Full Name field for data entry because
you must then rely on Outlook's algorithm for the format of the Full Name
field. Parse the name elements yourself.

Ok. Now I'm confused.

I've been trying to fix this for days and trying every fix I can find. When
I went to bed last night, it was still playing up. Trying again this morning
it's now working properly. *Shrug*

But in response, Diane, I had tried every option and every combition of
options. It's working ok now.

Thanks for the help.

Are you using First (Middle) Last format in tools, options, contact options.
