That mvp is a waste of time...You have upgraded from what...I take it the
on board display adapter that came with the motherboard...To install nvida,
open device mgr,expand the diplay adapter,R.click on it,select uninstall,do
not
restart computer, close out device mgr, shut down computer, install nvida card,
start computer, enter BIOS,set to nvida (usually advanced chip
set),save,exit,in
xp,1st,open device mgr,uninstall on board again,close out,install drivers
with
"found new hardware wizard" from cd,or downloads from nvida, once thru, restart
computer,youre done...

Andrew, if anyone is a waste of time it's you. You consistently give the
worst advice I've read in many years and you can't write a decent
declarative sentence to save your soul.

Harsh. But a conclusion supported by his failure to read the original post
and realize the upgrade was a new operating system and not a new display
adapter.

'Andrew E.' stared at the post. He had a sharp stick. He poked the
question. It shimmered in the sun. He missed the point. His hunt for 'one
true sentence' would go on.

I know Phil, and I really don't like to be harsh and in Andrew E.'s case
it is probably useless anyway. He's been giving terrible advice in
broken English for a long time now. He doesn't respond to anyone, just
goes right along breaking things. The only reason I bother to reply to
his posts is that in many cases if the OP followed his advice they
would trash their machine. That's not right.

BTW, your last paragraph is a true gem.

Have you tried installing the video card manufacturer's
WinXP-specific drivers for the computer's video adapter?

Harsh, but accurate. The conclusion is supported not only by the message he
posted to this thread, but the body of messages he posts to these
newsgroups. The wrong and misleading advice he consistently gives is
ameliorated only by his inability to write readable English sentences. So
someone who might be tempted to follow his poor advice is often unable to do
so because he can't understand it.

Yeah, I went thru some of his other posts, and you are exactly right. One
of the things I really like about newsgroups, at least the more technical
ones, is the 'peer review' effect. If bad advice is given, it usually gets
labeled as such.

As for the Hemingway pastiche, I had fun with that. I seem to remember an
article in 'Scientific American' from about 20 years ago that described and
gave the code for a simple program that could collect statistics from
samples of writing, then generate pastiches. The generated text contained
no meaning, of course, but the feel and rhythm evoked the original writers
style. The text generated from samples of Hemingway were the clearest
match. I'd sure like to find that program again. Unfortunately the on-line
archives of 'Scientific American' don't go back that far.

_____
One of the best things about newsgroups, especially technical ones, is the
'peer group' effect. Bad advice from somew like 'Andrew E.' is usually
called down. It is one of the prime reason newsgroups like this one are a
valuable resource. That, along with all the time contributed by
knowledgeable participants. ...windowsxp.basics should be one of the most
valuable because it naturally attracks questions from some of the least
experienced Windows users; if they can't come here, where else?

And maybe those less experienced Windows users do the RIGHT thing because
they can't understand 'Andrew E.' and his WRONG advice B>)
