Disk Management in XP-Home: Cannot Analyze or Defrag

The Disk Mgmt app does appear, but the Analyze and Defrag buttons do NOTHING.
The services for Logical disk mgr are on/started and I did not see any
dependencies. As a temporary workaround, I installed Diskeeper Lite which
does work, but the user wants the disk mgmt back working. I have not run
into this issue before. Thanks.

Windows XP is written in specific language versions, therefore one
cannot change the original language version to another. You'll need
to purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP in the language version
you desire, reformat your drive and install it "clean".

Or if you have an available empty drive or partition, you can install
another "Full Version" of Windows XP in a different language version
and create a dual-boot configuration.

A good third-party partitioning program is Partition Magic 8.

Carey,
I'm not sure what you are talking about; I did not mention anything about
any language problems with XP. Maybe you meant to post to a different thread.

Thanks! Although this situation doesn't quite match my own, I will at least
try it. The user only had/used the XP disk defragger and no other disk
products, but we'll see if this fix will keep from having to do a repair
install.............

Ramesh,

Thank you; this is actually what I tested on my own system based on some
advice from another source. It seems if the DCOM Server Process is not
started, the degragmenter buttons do nothing. I'm wondering why/how this
service may have gotten turned off............. Thank you so much for your
help and assistance.
