Is it worth the money to upgrade my nForce 570Ultra motherboard to one
that uses the newer Nvidia MCP78 chipset?

Usually, when people ask a question like this, they have some idea in
their mind, as to what the new product would give them. What do you
see about the "MCP78" that is so desirable ? I see something suited
to building an HTPC, while the 570Ultra might be a low end gamer.

Also, it is a good idea to use actual motherboard names, due to the
way that Nvidia uses branding. For me, it is hard to be sure we're
talking about the same thing.

For example here -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NForce_700

Nforce 730a = MCP78U with Geforce 8200 graphics

Some motherboard advertisements, list that as
"NVIDIA GeForce 8200 chipset".

The 570ultra is described here. x16 main video slot, plus x4 more lanes.
No built in graphics, but as a low end gamer, you'd be using a single
video card for graphics anyway.

The 570ultra looks adequate for what it is intended for.

OK, I completely missed the details stated in the subject line :)

730a has 6 SATA at 3Gbit/sec cable rate, and one ribbon
cable for Ultra 133. 570Ultra has the same. There would be
no reason for a difference between them.

My fault for not mentioning the "disk i/o" part in the message body.

So there is really no improvement whatsoever in terms of SATA i/o? Argh....

Do you see an anomaly when using HDTach or HDTune ?
Is some benchmark not working properly ?

Perhaps a performance issue, could be related to CRC errors detected.
If Windows gets too many CRC errors, the disk transfer rate will drop
to 4MB/sec.

I have zero problem with MCP55's RAID 0 function. My board is
an Asus M2N-E. Was just wondering about any performance gain in
the RAID chipset of MCP78 ... :)
