DISK FULL ERROR

B

Bala

Hi All,

May be a simple question, but a show stopper for me.

I realized that all of a sudden, my hard disk is full,
when I never think it should be. Hence, I went and removed
some programs I have installed (using uninstall or
add/remove programs) that I rarely use, to create more
disk space. I could now see the disk space free. Within,
few minutes, I found again the disk was FULL. I searched
the latest modified/created files in Windows Explorer
Search option. I found a file that keeps hogging the space
I just created which is apache/bin/log/error.log. I tried
to delete this file, I got an shared violation error.
Then I tried to end the process apache.exe using task
manager, Again It gave me an error that this could not be
ended. I tried to perform some system admin tasks, but
could not perform anything as the diskspace was full.

Any help is much appreciated. Please reply to
(e-mail address removed)

Thanks
Bala.

Bala,

Can you boot into Safe Mode and "Disable" the Service that runs Apache? You
could then try to read the log file. Worst case, you can boot to the
Recovery Console using your Windows CD and delete the file.

Thanks for the response. That worked.
1. I restarted my PC in the safe mode (press escape or
some function key F8(may be) to interrupt regular startup).
2. Deleted the file error.log and ensure there is no
apache process running in task manager.
3. Restarted my PC. Now I can see the space being
available.
4. Updated the Anti-Virus Definitions and ran the scan for
any virus. It is still running.

Thanks
Bala.
