disk drive problem

when i put a disk into the disk drive on my laptop it wont load, just a small
disk next to the mouse cursor appears. this only started happening today and
also my laptop has been running very slow. it started when i was doing a vcd
in nero and the tray didnt open itself fora disk. please help
