Disk Defragmenter--HELP!!!

I finally found a way to run the disk defragmenter
yesterday--after a year--but the only way to do it was to
start--run--mmc--file--add/remove snap-in--click add
button--select disk defragmenter; click add; click close,
click ok. Then select disk defragmenter in rt pane--
action--new window from here. I could then run it from
the new window. I tried saving it--which my computer
supposedly did--but when I try to run the program from
start--accessories--system tools--disk defragmenter--it
will not work. Does ANYONE have any suggestions on how
to fix this file. I am at my wits end!! I am glad that
yesterday--after a year I was able to defragment my
computer--but there has to be an easier way to fix this
problem. Thanks for anyone who can help!

Doesn't it work the normal way? As in, My Computer, right-click the drive, select Properties, Tools, Defragment Now? Perhaps run Check Disk first so Defragmenter doesn't complain.

Repeat your steps to create a working Defrag window.
START > Run... > mmc
...

Do NOT use Save. Use Save As...
File name: %SystemRoot%\System32\dfrg.msc
