Disk Cleanup

Go into explorer and then do properties on C drive.
Select Disk Cleanup. PC just hangs on Compressing old
files. It never goes alway. Norton anti-virus says PC
is clean. ????

Go to search at top of Microsofts support services page,
and type in 812248 and follow to KB812248 "Disc cleanup
tool stops responding while compressing old files".
The next time you use Disk cleanup, check all options
except compress old files.....Good luck.

Hey,

I was one of the first people to have this problem about
a year ago. Far back in the newsgroups are all the posts
about this problem. I was reading the support page that
Skip gave you and so you know, you won't be able to
compress old files anymore. I'm sure almost no one uses
it, but in case you want to I'll explain it. The reason
that it freezes there is because your compress old files
registry key can just get messed up. You can download
this registry key at this website, http://www.kellys-
korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm on line #48. (Another good
thing about when everyone else had this problem was you
could put small attachments in posts which microsoft took
away.) Back up ur registry then import the key.
Everything should work.
