Disk Cleanup wont open at all

I have read just about everything posted on web and I can't find out how to
fix the problem. I cannot get disk cleanup to open at all. I have tried every
way possible to open thinking maybe I had a corrupt shortcut but to no avial.
I have read about it locking up on Compress Old Files so I thought what the
heck I will try and see if that fixes it. It does not. Any help getting disk
cleanup to open would be great. I have been to Kelly's page and downloaded
Install Disk Cleanup. Still doesn't work. I have cleaned out all .tmp files
manually. Please help.

I have tried to use Disk CleanUp twice on a Dell Laptop running XP. I only
wanted to clean up the Content Indexer and in both cases the utility ran into
errors and for some reason the system32/hal.dll file became (or was)
corrupted. This cased the need to twice reinstall the O/S. Dell thought it
could have been spy-ware corrupting the hal.dll file, but could not be sure.
I run anti-spy and other protection software so not sure how it could have
been corrupted. I will never run the utility again in fear of the same thing
happening, unless I make sure the whole PC is backed up BEFORE running the
CleanUp.

Hii, Use ccleaner [ www.ccleaner.com ] this is a free tool and does a very
through system clean job. also after cleaning install windows defender
(microsoft's antispyware beta2) and a good antivirus www.freeav.com or
www.windowsonecare.com best antivirus and antispyware protections.
