Disk check on start

Old Geaser

Hello,

Lately when I turn the computer on, before win xp starts, a blue screen
comes on saying something like One of the disk needs to be checked for
consistency. Then it runs through a process that takes about 15 seconds and
then win xp starts. I does not say anything about a error that I can see.
Any ideas why it runs this? What can I do or check to stop this on startup?
Thanks in advance.

The results are written to the application log of Event Viewer so have a
look at the result.

You might want to download a drive diagnostic utility from the hard drive
manufacturer's web site. That will create a bootable floppy or CD. Boot
from it and run the diagnostics.

Before doing that, though, and at all times, make sure you have a full and
complete backup of important data. I'm not saying your drive is failing,
this could be just a one time thing, but data loss can occur at any time,
it's an issue of when, not if, so be prepared.
